After July 2011, there were some significant changes to the Fellows program at IPGKDRI.

Now each of the lecturers in the English Department has chosen to be in the mentoring team with one or both of us.

We fellows have greatly enjoyed getting to know each of the lecturers better, discovering their professional strengths, and exploring ways that our expertise and experience can be used towards their professional development.
Each individual lecturer is unique. With some we are sharing a research project, with others we work through the requirements of the syllabus and how best to provide useful experiences for the trainee teachers.
Sometimes we can be most useful by working together on a challenging ICT project.

We are still conducting weekly workshops with the whole department. These are half-day sessions on topics that come out of our talks with individual lecturers.

ICT Workshop
At the end of this semester, in the period when the students will be busy with exams, we are planning to run an extended 4-day workshop/course for the lecturers. During this time we hope to share skills in ICT, using Word and PowerPoint more effectively, as well as interaction with the Internet - uploading and downloading, efficient use of emails, etc.

In first semester we mostly taught some of the PPISMP classes.

Peter taught Language Development, and Ruth taught Language Description.

We also helped with some MBI sessions.

We presented some workshops with the whole English Department. The first ones were about using music and rhythm in teaching English.

Here some of the lecturers are practising rhythms using chopsticks.
Arriving in Malaysia
The fellows arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Jan 10 2011, and spent a few days at the Klana resort in Seremban learning about the country and the job.
And then they gave us the keys to a car and sent us on the way to Kuala Terengganu.

Driving Across the Country

We set off accross the country with Peter and Ruth in one car and Dr Lloyd following very closely behind. We lost our way a little (!) in KL, going steadily west instead of east rather a long way before we found our mistake, and wasted a couple of hours.

Kuala Terengganu - our new home.
When we arrived in Kuala Terengganu we stayed in the Tanjong Vista hotel for a week, enjoying the views of the river mouth and the sea.
Wisma Tenang - our apartment
After a week we moved into an apartment in Wisma Tenang in Kuala Terengganu.
Starting Work at IPGKDRI
Despite having to drive 20km every day to IPG at Batu Rakit, we were soon feeling very comfortable with our new colleagues and settled in to our new jobs.
For We Are Jolly Good Fellows
Here is a link to the blog about our Malaysian 'adventure', and it contains links to our previous blogs written when we were working in other countries around the world.

The purpose of this blog is to inform about our work here at IPGKDRI, and especially anything relating to this website.
