About Movies in Teaching English Language

Movies can be powerful learning tools for students of a foreign language. One of the greatest challenges for the Malaysian teacher of English is immersing students in English language. Movies provide a wealth of English language in conversational exchanges that are otherwise unavailable in the Malaysian classroom. Some of the advantages offered by movies are:

* native English speaker pronunciation, accent and intonation

* conversation embedded within the context of a plot, providing vital cues and clues to the meaning of spoken text

* visual clues to the meaning of spoken text

* a variety of accents that fall within the category of Standard English

* entertainment and engagement of the learner that encourages enthusiasm for learning English in a low-anxiety environment

These worksheets are designed for the teacher to direct students' learning towards certain aspects of the English language. It is anticipated that each teacher will develop their own worksheets based on viewing material available to them.
